Organ donation from a brain-dead patient for the first time at the Mannar District General Hospital

In a significant humanitarian event in the history of the Mannar District General Hospital, for the first time, organ donation from a brain-dead patient in the intensive care unit was carried out at the Mannar District General Hospital today.

With a high sense of humanity, the patient’s family agreed to organ donation, even after the own death, to bring light to the lives of others. This great decision has the potential to give new hope and a chance to live many lives.

A great event took place today when he donated both his kidneys to two people who had long-term kidney failure and successfully transplanted them, giving them life. Organ donation is a noble gift that gives life to many lives. This historic event held in DGH Mannar will help further increase awareness about organ donation in the society.

As the Director of the Hospital, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the patient’s family, the Consultant Anaesthetist team, Surgeon, the Director of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, the Jaffna Teaching Hospital vascular Surgeon team, doctors, nurses and all the healthcare workers who supported to perform the surgery.
